BizTalk Saturday Recap

The weekend before the first BizTalk Saturday in the Netherlands took place. 17 attendees including a representative from Microsoft The Netherlands, people from Belgium, myself and Saravana Kumar were present in the head office of Axon Olympus.

BizTalk Saturday 1

The topic of the day was Windows Azure BizTalk Service (WABS), one of the new services in the Windows Azure Platform. This service provides a means of hosting an integration solution that is running and managed through Windows Azure. It is general available since mid-November 2013 and offers EAI and B2B services:
  • The EAI Service provides means to exchange data through different protocols and transform to and from different formats. Similar to what the on premise BizTalk offers through mapping and routing.
  • The B2B service gives businesses the ability to exchange data between their partners. You can view it as a new way of EDI data exchange other than a value added network (VAN).
The focus during the day was on the EAI service. After my presentation introducing the key parts of the EAI Service and WABS in general the attendees started working on the labs I prepared. The labs enabled people to build a bridge solution, deploy, test and debug it using the BizTalk Service Explorer, custom coding, explore tracking/archiving and working with the API (REST and PowerShell).

BizTalk Saturday 3

This first BizTalk Saturday has been well received by attendees as they enjoyed the day and the labs. The location was perfectly suited for the occasion.

BizTalk Saturday2

The concept of the BizTalk Saturday will be a little fine-tuned for the next time. The BizTalk User Group is thinking of performing this event again on WABS and organizing another one with a different topic. I enjoyed the day, presenting and walking around helping people on their way in the labs. The labs themselves were well aligned with current state of the technology.

Cheers,

Steef-Jan
